Lina's Visit
Description
My graduation project about helping children reduce their anxiety before an operation. Anxiety in children who must be operated is a huge problem because it negatively affects treatment. For example, anxious children need more anesthetics and have a delayed wound healing. Developing this game involved a lot of research into preoperative anxiety and their treatments. I regularly consulted with an expert in e-health systems for children, a child oncologist at the renowned Charite, the CEO of the game studio Megapop games, and children to arrive at the best possible design.
I created all assets for this game except for some furniture sprites.

Contributions
Wrote extensive research report
To ensure the game's design aligns with the latest scientific research, I authored a comprehensive report addressing various design-related topics. Inter alia, the report covered:
● Identifying which children are most vulnerable to preoperative anxiety.
● Exploring current multimedia solutions for alleviating preoperative anxiety in children.
● Understanding the specific fears children face in a hospital setting.

Conducted formal user testing
A key aspect of this project was evaluating the effectiveness of my game. To achieve this, I designed and conducted a user test utilizing scientifically validated questionnaires for serious games and preoperative anxiety.

Developed Dialogue System
I created a dynamic dialogue system capable of:
● Adapting conversations based on the status of quests—whether they are unexplored, active, or completed.
● Presenting dialogue options to the player.

Developed Quest System
I designed a quest system that can:
● Manage both quest lines and parallel quests.
● Automatically assign or complete quests based on player actions, such as dialogue choices.
● Display active quests to the player.

Developed blood sampling minigame
In the game, players can practice taking a blood sample to simulate a hospital experience. They have access to a disinfecting wipe, a lancet, a plaster, and a vial. These items must be used in the correct sequence and applied or rubbed on the finger accordingly.
